Tag | National Pet Day!

Today, the 11th August is National Pet day! I only wish I could give my cat who is on the other side of the world big hug. I thought I would do the Pet Tag to honour this day and introduce you all to someone who is very dear and special to me.

1. What is your pet’s name?
My pet's name is Luka.

2. What kind of pet is it and what breed?
Luka is a Persian cross domestic cat.

3. How long have you had your pet friend?
I've had my cat since mid 2007.

4. How did you get your pet?
There was a pet shop near my house and every night, they would let people take the animals home and look after them. It was during the school holidays and my friend and I were walking past the pet shop. She looked after Luka's sister and I looked after Luka. The next morning when we woke up, Luka was absolutely no where to be found. He was so tiny and shy at the time (about eight weeks old). I remember leaving trails of food around the house looking for him. I called my friend to come over and help us look for him. It literally looked like we were moving house as we had taken all the books down from the bookshelves and everything from under the bed. Three hours later when we had almost lost hope, I heard a tiny meow near the kitchen. We finally found him in the fan located in the back of the oven. Since I was reunited with him, I knew I loved him and my mum let me keep him.

5. How old is your pet?
My cat will be eight years old this year.

6. What are some quirky things about your pet’s personality?
If I blow on him while his lying down, he'll roll around on the floor and I haven't got a clue why he does this. Also, Luka knows how to play hide-and-seek. I'll hide and he'll run up and tag me and then he'll go off and hide and I have to go and tag him. This one might be a bit TMI but after he's gone to the toilet, he does what I call a victory lap and runs around the house meowing.

7. What does your relationship with your pet mean to you?
My cat is my family and he means the world to me. So much of my life has changed for the better since I've had him. He's always there for me and keeps me company. Now that I'm overseas and can't see him everyday, I realise how complete he made my life and how quiet my room is without him.

8. What are some of your favourite past times with your pet?
Every moment I've had with him from giving him a good brushing, playing with him and waking up to find him sleeping on my feet.

9. What are the nicknames that you call your pet?
Luka, lukluk, piggy and some other nicknames in Chinese.

I hope you enjoyed reading the Pet Tag. I wish all of great happiness with your pets and please give them a big hug!

Love Sally
